You are, no doubt, familiar with Chip and Joanna Gaines, but you might not know how they became so popular or how their business exploded. This book, told by both of them, shares their journey from their dating stages to just a few years ago. It’s quite amazing how their path unfolded, with the universe seemingly guiding them every single step of the way. Every time they hit a crossroads, they received clear signs to continue to point them in the right direction. It was interesting to learn more about their story, and a great reminder that you need to trust in yourself and follow your passions, and everything really does just fall into place. Chip has his own book out too, Capital Gaines, which I added to my list after I read this one. If you’re curious about their story or just need confirmation to continue to chase your dreams, read this one. ✨ #catesbookaweek 6/52

She has settled into a new routine here (ours 😂), and now doesn’t get up until after 9 am, stays up until well past midnight, eats a very late dinner, knows that the kitchen is where the magic happens and sits for a treat after her morning backyard visit. We’ve broken her in nicely but she will be returning with her continued bad habit of suffering from #fomo, playing tag with the cats, and barking every time she hears a door open or sees someone go up the street. We did our best. 😇

This was all from the @bernardsvillefarmersmarket. Today I hit the @denvillemarket and added full sour pickles from @pickle_licious and a roasted garlic and duck fat loaf and cheese biscuit from @bobolinkdairyandbakehouse. Happy National Moscato Day! {Gallo Family Vineyards}

May 9, 2013 · Ad-Free, Narrative

Untitled
There is a National Grilled Cheese Day.

National PB&J Day.

So, of course, a National Moscato Day!

What better reason than to try a few of the Moscato varieties that come from the Gallo Family Vineyards?

When I was in my early 20s and entertaining friends in my tiny walk-up apartment, I could count on a few things.

Snack food.

Wine.

Good times.

And when you have that, what else do you need?

It was back then that I discovered the trick of putting alcohol in the freezer. It doesn’t freeze the liquid, but makes it ice, ice cold.

Which is different than ice, ice baby. (Name that song, my 90s friends!)

And since then, I put a lot of alcohol in the freezer, including wine.

And the three bottles that the Gallo Family Vineyards sent me are no different.

Because if there is wine to be had, the colder the better.

And a pre-iced glass? Nirvana.

When it comes to wine, I tend to be a little picky. And by “a little picky,” I mean I don’t like most of it. It’s just not my thing, and wine is usually relegated to being added to my cooking, or as an integral ingredient in my White Wine Strawberry Sangria.

But this wine?

Please, Miss, may I have some more?

Wine is always better when served with friends, so it was the perfect opportunity to do a little taste-testing as we cracked open a few bottles tonight and got down to some serious business.

First, I actually like them all.

No joke.

And they will forever be added to my shopping list.

But more specifically…

The white Moscato. Smooth. Goes down nice and easy. Light. And I wanted more. Usually after a few polite sips, I’m done. This time, I wasn’t.

The red Moscato. So good. Sweet. Not as thick and cloying as reds tend to be. None of the usual harsher tones that turn me off. A great finisher. While there is a hint of citrus, you definitely taste the sweetness of berries perhaps a bit more. I would serve it alongside dessert or a nice red meat. With a cheese platter while entertaining. Loved it chilled. No hesitation with serving this one.

And the pink Moscato. While still good, it was my least favorite of the three (white first, then the red). I liked it by itself, but think it would also be awesome as part of a sangria, with its peach and citrus notes.

I like a family business (Gallo Family Vineyards has been around since 1933), and I love an affordable wine. This one kept me coming back for more, and will be in permanent rotation.

One last thing! Join us for a Twitter party tonight, 9 pm EST. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate National Moscato Day than discussing our favorites with the folks at Gallo. Use hashtag #gno and #MoscatoDay to join in the fun. See you there!

I love sweeter wines like moscatos so I’ll have to check these out! Maybe I’ll even pick one up to bring over to my mom’s for mother’s day!
