I popped into @chocolatinenj early on Mother’s Day and was rewarded with this deliciousness. Layers of soft flaky croissant dough, tender smoked salmon, light whipped cream, thinly sliced red and green onion slivers and dotted with capers… it was every bit as amazing as you’d imagine it would be. If you’re local, don’t sleep on this one. 😋

Review: Planet Swirl {Whippany, New Jersey}

July 24, 2013 · Narrative

Untitled

A few months ago, my friend Carmen, knowing our penchant for frozen yogurt places, texted me a message.

“Planet Swirl, you must go.”

And who am I not to follow orders like that?

I added it to our growing must-see-do-try-visit places on my phone, and decided to save it for just the right time.

Which happened a few weeks ago when there was a Groupon deal offered for it.

I mean, frozen yogurt AND half price?

It’s almost like our obligation.

I took the kids, and Nick brought a friend, and we stopped in one afternoon.

Untitled

Easy to find right off Route 10, there is ample parking right in front of the store. As soon as we walked in, the iphones were quickly whipped out while the kids were ooohing and aahing over the decor and snapping countless pictures.

Planet Swirl took their outer space theme and ran with it, making for a fun spot to visit, and setting it apart from the countless other froyo places that are popping up everywhere.

I don’t think Madeline loaded any pictures onto Instagram that afternoon, but between Nick and his friend, there had to have been 30 some pictures shared online with their friends.

Untitled

Um, do you think they liked the place?

Tons of yogurt flavors available, including some that we haven’t seen before (bonus points for originality!). The toppings bar was very clean, and had a good mix of healthy and not-so-healthy options available.

Untitled

The place has only been opened a few months, and it was empty when we went. Ample seating for everyone, and the staff was friendly and outgoing. We, um, poked around in the back of the store and discovered they have a large private party room, making it a fun spot for birthday parties, scouting trips, and the like. They also have their own rewards program, which I always appreciate, and many gluten-free options.

Heck, even the bathrooms were cool.

Untitled

I can’t tell you how the yogurt tastes, because froyo is something I’ve temporarily given up (more details on my current eating plan coming next week), but I can tell you that all three kids ate every speck of what was in their cups, and that’s always a good sign.

And after frozen yogurt, the kids had dinner in the clubhouse.

Untitled

I’d say it was a good day. And exactly the type of day that summer is made for.

PLANET SWIRL – WHIPPANY

Hungry for more froyo reviews?
Yummy Yogurt in Boonton was our last half-off Groupon yogurt taste testing stop.
Taro, in Morristown, is worth a visit for the Toasted Marshmallow flavor alone.
The kids love Let’s Yo! because they have iPads on the tables for them to use.
Strawberry Fields in Morristown is also in the same area as Taro, but Taro is tops out of these two.
Red Mango is still our one-to-beat.
CUPS is good, if you can get past the loud club-like atmosphere.
We visit Yogurtland the most because it’s the closest to us.

Tomorrow? S’mores Pizza and movie night (more summer bucket list items done and done)

Cute place! I just went to a self-serve yogurt store in Palm Springs. First I had seen of this self-serve variety that apparently became popular years ago. I need to get out more.

I love that the place really stuck with the outer space theme! And if the kids gobbled it up that’s a pretty good sign that it was tasty.
