I popped into @chocolatinenj early on Mother’s Day and was rewarded with this deliciousness. Layers of soft flaky croissant dough, tender smoked salmon, light whipped cream, thinly sliced red and green onion slivers and dotted with capers… it was every bit as amazing as you’d imagine it would be. If you’re local, don’t sleep on this one. 😋

Visit: Glaze Artisan Donuts {Wayne, New Jersey}

April 3, 2017 · Narrative

A new donut shop that is worth a visit, right in Wayne, New Jersey.

If you’ve been a reader here for awhile, you may remember that a friend and I did a Donut Crawl a few years ago. Something that we totally need to do again, because new donuts shops seem to be popping up all.the.time. Kind of like the cupcake craze from a few years ago, I guess donuts are the current (neverending?) trend. While I don’t have a huge sweet tooth, I do love the occasional specialty donut, so I can’t say I’m mad about this.

We discovered Glaze Artisan Donuts about 6 months ago, and we have been in love ever since. Luckily they’re about twenty minutes away from us, so we don’t indulge too often, but they’re about 4 miles away from one of my clients, so…

It’s a small place, with seating for about a dozen or so, and located in a strip mall. Easy to find, plenty of parking, and open until mid-evening. One note of caution though … when they sell out of donuts, they close up shop early. Luckily we haven’t had that happen to us (yet!), but I sent a friend down there last week and he arrived only to find a very sad note on the door.

Whomp whomp.

So … the donuts. They are kind of amazing confections that only a donut expert could dream up. Varieties like Twix, Almond Joy, Samoa, Fruit Pebbles, Nutella, and Cannoli. If your imagination can concoct it, it’s probably there. They are also well-known for their Italian Rainbow Donut, which is available only on the weekends, and $4.95 each (others are less expensive).

The hardest part is deciding what you want!

I am a creature of habit and ALWAYS get the same donuts … Cannoli and Jelly. So tender and so good. Not overly sweet, just perfectly so. And if you’re lucky enough, they will have the Jelly donuts in mini size too. The kids tend to be all over the place with the donuts they choose, usually going with a glazed or plain vanilla or chocolate frosted, and then a more “special” donut for their second choice.

The staff is very helpful if you need a little help with decision making. The first time I went, I couldn’t decide (shocking!), and I asked the employee what her favorite one was. She said Cannoli, and I didn’t choose it right away because I was afraid it would be too sweet (spoiler alert, it wasn’t), so she ended up adding it on the house just so I could try it, and it’s been my favorite one ever since.

If you don’t want to spend previous minutes drooling in front of the display case while you’re trying to decide, you can check out their flavors online and also their Instagram page. No shortage of drool-worthy pictures there! Just remember to make your list with back-up choices, because they make everything in small batches and the same donuts aren’t necessarily available every day. We went to the Wayne location, but they also have one in New Milford, and plan to open West Caldwell and Paramus locations as well (addresses are here.

And if you want to have your very own Donut Crawl, Jersey-style, be sure to add a few of these to your list. Now it’s YOUR turn … what’s your favorite donut shop? Or favorite donut?

    Love Glaze – and love that they have a few mini donuts – allowed us to try a few more :-). Thrillled that they’re opening one closer!

    We totally need a 2017 version of the donut crawl – my fave donut place is in Buffalo – Paula’s donuts – their peanut stick donut is like no other… and if you want to drop the hubs a hint for my upcoming bday ;-)
