I popped into @chocolatinenj early on Mother’s Day and was rewarded with this deliciousness. Recipe: Two Ingredient BBQ Dipping Sauce

June 17, 2018 · Narrative

A super fast, mega delicious dipping sauce that is perfect for all your upcoming Summer BBQs.

Untitled

I host cooking classes and food tastings at a variety of locations. I have been doing it for two years now, and have about a dozen different places that I hit regularly. Sometimes I pitch concepts and recipes to my client, sometimes they ask for something specific.

But most times? I’m figuring out the recipe at the eleventh hour.

No joke.

Part of it is that while I am a bit of a planner, I also have a whole lotta “fly by the seat of my pants” in me too. It can make for a very chaotic life sometimes, perhaps more so than necessary, but it’s served me reasonably well so far, so if it ain’t break, why fix it?

All that to say that I finally decided what I was making for a class last week at 11 pm the night before. I had pitched “unique BBQ recipes,” but just hadn’t settled on exactly WHAT that meant.

If you’ve been a regular visitor here, you know I love my condiments and dipping sauces. Like… LOVE. So I started brainstorming about other ways that I could use a BBQ sauce, because I was bringing a friend to present with me, and she owns a gourmet food shop that carries the Stonewall Kitchen line of sauces.

BBQ sauce tends to be high in sugar, so although I love all things BBQ, I tend to steer clear of a lot of it unless I make it myself, because it’s not exactly Whole30 or clean eating. So while I was brainstorming for this particular class, I was trying to think of ways I could make a sauce that was healthier.

And here we are.

Two Ingredient BBQ Dipping Sauce.

The other ingredient?

Greek yogurt.

As I was talking to the class attendees, I was telling them how much I really dislike Greek yogurt. Like, I’ll eat it drizzled with honey and topped with fresh fruit and granola… which means I pretty much do what I can to cover up the actual taste of Greek yogurt. Which is how this dipping sauce came to be.

Let’s take a super delicious smoky peach whiskey BBQ sauce and add Greek yogurt to it.

I roasted a whole sheet pan of Yukon Gold potatoes (my favorite) for the class and everyone seriously devoured them.

Everything is better with a dipping sauce, I’m telling ya.

Valentine’s Day Inspiration

February 10, 2016 · Holidays and More, Narrative

This week rivals the Christmas season in our household in terms of busyness and celebrating.

Two birthday and Valentine’s Day.

Which is crazy awesome.

Because I am all for anything that celebrates love and some of my favorite people.

So as I am knee-deep in prep work, I thought I would share some of our favorite Valentine’s Day inspiration.

These “out of this world” Valentine’s Day cards was one of my favorite DIYs over the years – totally unique and super simple to make.

I actually just spied this shirt at the bottom of a donate pile the other day. Love Nick’s version, though there’s no way he’d wear that now, as a teenager. Another very simple craft idea, and perfect activity if you want to have a few friends over. Heartbreaker

This recipe for Seven Layer Jell-O Squares was a fun one, and gobbled up by the kids. I have been on a Jell-O kick lately – came out of I DON’T KNOW WHERE.

These Chocolate S’mores Cookies look adorable with hearts piped onto the top.

These cards from a few years back were easy and a favorite as well. Madeline's Card

Now, for a few gift ideas…

Top 7 Apple Recipes {Celebrate Fall}

October 6, 2015 · Narrative

Untitled

Truly one of my favorite seasons, Fall is a wonderful celebration of both nature and food. Crisp air and the start of comfort food season, what more could we want? Now that we are in the throes of apple picking, how about a little inspiration on what to do with all those apples you come home with?

Untitled

My kids eat apples straight from the tree. As for me? I only eat them if I’m baking with them. So this is for me, as much as it is for you.

Favorite Apple Recipes

If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat, you might recognize these Glazed Apple Bars from last week. A tried-and-true that we’ve been making for a few years now, they taste like you’re eating apple pie from your hands. And outside of the apples, you likely have the rest of the ingredients in your kitchen already.

Grandma Ople’s Pie is for when making a pie intimidates you. This recipe could not be simpler, and it tastes delicious as is, or warmed up and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of dulce de leche sauce from Stonewall Kitchen (which we discovered during a summer trip to Vermont).

This Caramel Apple Cheesecake is when you want to impress someone, but don’t have a lot of time. Because it LOOKS like a ton of work, but isn’t. It’s kind of amazing….
