April 2014 Instragram in Review

Every time I get ready to do one of these monthly Instagram in Review posts, I do a quick search on my site to see the last one I did. And then see that I’m still two months behind.

Whomp whomp.

But it’s a good way to relieve some of our April highlights.

And one of these days, I will do two reviews in a month so I can catch up.

April was the month…

… that brought about the most amazing cauliflower soup that ever was, of which I just made another batch for a neighbor. If you haven’t had it yet, do add to your list.

… that put us on place for Spring Break in Tennessee (see all related posts here).

… that Madeline’s soccer season started.

… that we did the Run or Dye 5K event.

My creation

March 2014 will always be the month when…
…Madeline discovered that she loves cheerleading. And this surprised no one that knows her.
…Nick saved up enough of his own money to buy an iPad. So proud of that kid.
…We traipsed into the city for a day trip with Joanne and Sarah.
…We ate delicious food and saw beautiful sunsets.
Wait. That’s probably every month.
…I made Bacon-Wrapped Stuffed Jalapeno Peppers a million times because they’re THAT GOOD.
And no, I didn’t get tired of them.
…Nick got braces.
…We sold a bajillion Girl Scout cookies. And then some.
…We discovered that Merry was really sick. Will share her story soon; the kids haven’t been ready for me to do so yet.

That heart in the top row? I do believe that might be our most favorite random heart so far. But I am admittedly the girl who cried favorite, so, really, they’re all my favorite.

January was full of so much awesomeness. And hard stuff. Balance. It’s a good thing.

My creation

When I look at the month of October in its collective 36 pictures, I think it totally encapsulates the Sweetnicks’ tag line … Food. Life. Love. Food was quite prominent, in various colorful forms. And the month was full of life, from day trips with friends to birthday and Halloween celebrations. And love. Well, it’s always there, front and center, even on a tattoo.

Instagram is a great way to keep track of the little moments in your life. The day-to-day things that years from now, or even weeks from now, you won’t remember anymore. And I want to remember everything. I also find that the monthly reviews are a good way to continue to focus on the good things, the blessings, and let the rest fall to the wayside. Four hundred and ten pictures were downloaded from my phone during the month of October, and although many of the photos don’t use a filter or additional app, if I need one, my go-to is usually Afterlight, which is stellar for lightening a too-dark picture.

My creation

Another mostly happiness-filled month, as we close the books on August. Although Rosie died from cancer last month, and exactly one week later we were sitting in the ER, it was a good month otherwise. Thirty-one days that were filled with cupcakes, a trout hatchery, an air show, our annual Labor Day weekend away, a train exhibit, family, food, birthday celebrations, late night swimming, and hot air balloons.

And with that, we are three and a half weeks out from going back to school and closing the books on another summer. I, for one, am not quite ready to say good-bye to summer yet. It’s been a wonderful one, full of ups and downs and in-betweens. We have made a good size dent in our Summer Bucket List, and with this being the last week of camp for the kids, that leaves three solid weeks to get the rest of the list done. Challenge accepted.

This round-up was the hardest I’ve done since I’ve been doing the monthly Instagram reviews. I actually had four extra pictures, but I tried to be ruthless and got it down to the standard 36. Interestingly enough, in July, I took the most amount of pictures, as compared to every other month this year. Stats, interesting stuff.

I gotta say, June was pretty awesome. I definitely had to make some tough choices on which photos to include in this month’s round-up, but I think I managed to cover most of the highlights.

Nick’s graduation.

Madeline’s.

The start of summer and beach days.

A trip to Medieval Times and Baltimore, Maryland.

My creation

I love doing the Instagram reviews because it’s a good way to reflect on all the things that we did within the month. Our first 5K of the year, a new foster dog (who has since been adopted), Nick’s new love of track, Madeline’s Spring soccer season, fun with friends, good eats, gorgeous skies, and so very much more.

Not photographed are messy rooms, overflowing kitchen sinks, tired moms, and sassy backtalk.  But without all that stuff, our lives wouldn’t be as full as they are now, so I’m even (mostly) grateful for those moments as well.

May 2013? You have your work cut out for you.

This was a tough one. Summarizing a month in 36 photos when it included Nick’s D.A.R.E. graduation, his moving up ceremony in the Boy Scouts, Madeline’s Kindergarten registration, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, a Baptism celebration, and a seven day vacation…? Not to mention, you know, normal life. I did my best, which, considering our vacation alone netted some 500+ photos, was no easy feat. But whoop! There it is!
